Our Hurricane Shutters

Hurricane shutters and storm panels help protect your family and home against damage from hurricanes and tropical storms. These systems are designed to withstand hurricane-force winds, wind-borne debris and heavy, driving rains. They help protect your home against broken glass, which can lead to more serious issues such as water intrusion or your home becoming pressurized.

There are a wide range of hurricane-rated shutter options, including roll-down, accordion, Bahama, and Colonial shutters, as well as aluminum and clear storm panels. The right type of shutter for your home depends on your home’s openings, and your preferences for convenience, appearance and budget.

Eurex Shutters is Southwest Florida’s oldest hurricane shutter company for a reason. For 40+ years, we have installed and serviced a wide selection of custom, locally made storm shutters at fair prices.

We are proud to install high-quality hurricane shutters in Lehigh Acres, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Naples, Marco Island, Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte, Venice and throughout Southwest FL

Hurricane Shutter Types

If you are a homeowner or business owner in Southwest Florida you have several options for hurricane shutters. These range from permanently installed roll-down and accordion shutters to Bahama and Colonial shutters. There are also removable storm panel and hurricane fabric systems. Each type of shutter offers different levels of protection, appearance, convenience, and cost.

Below we provide an overview of each option in more detail.

Permanent Hurricane Shutters

Roll Down Hurricane Shutters

Eurex Shutters PTX™ electric roll down shutters can be controlled by a remote, switch, or even a mobile, smartphone app.

Accordion Hurricane Shutters

Accordion shutters are permanently installed, aluminum shutters that open and close (expand and compress) horizontally like an accordion. This type of shutter system can be locked from inside or outside your home. They move along a permanently installed track system making them easy to open and close.

These shutters are popular with Southwest Florida homeowners due to their convenience and high value for the price. These easy to use shutters can be usually deployed on a standard size home within 15-20 minutes.

Accordion shutters are suitable for windows, doors, and wide openings, such as lanais, sliding glass doors, and patios.

Bahama Style Hurricane Shutters

Bahama shutters are a type of permanently installed hurricane shutters that give your home a touch of Caribbean style and beauty. They also offer excellent storm protection and are simple to operate. These shutters stay at an angle over your windows, providing shade while allowing air flow. If a storm is approaching they are easy to deploy by lowering them flat over the window and locking them into place.

Hurricane rated versions are made from aluminum (not plastic), and are the full window (not the half window) version.

Homeowners and business owners in SWFL love Bahama shutters because of their good looks. They are considered “aesthetically pleasing” and can add curb appeal to your home. Our product also comes in a very wide variety of colors.

Colonial shutters are permanently installed on your home and hinged on each side of the window. This type of hurricane shutter has a traditional appearance and Southern Charm that enhances the look of your home. But while they look like regular Colonial style window shutters, they offer excellent hurricane protection.

These hurricane shutters are also fairly easy to deploy. You can open and close them from either inside or outside of your house. They swing closed and lock into place with storm bars to protect your windows during a hurricane.

BERTHA™ Aluminum & Galvanized Steel Storm Panels

Eurex Hurricane Storm Panels

Storm panels are rigid, corrugated panels made from aluminum or steel that overlap each other to protect your windows and doors. They are installed on your home by fastening them to your home’s exterior walls with specialized fasteners, such as anchors and sidewalk bolts.

These hurricane shutters are temporary, not permanently attached to your home. In other words they are removable. This means means they need to be installed and uninstalled each storm, which makes them the most labor intensive type of hurricane shutter. On the positive side, they only stay on your home when a storm is present. This may be a benefit for you if you do not like the look of exterior shutters.

BERTHA™ Polycarbonate Clear Storm Panels

Polycarbonate storm panels are rigid, corrugated panels that overlap each other to protect your windows and doors. Like the metal versions these hurricane shutters are installed on your home by fastening them with specialized fasteners. The unique feature of clear panels is that they allow natural light in and allow you to see out of them. In addition, they are lighter than metal versions, which helps with installation.

Clear storm panels are removable, not permanently installed on your home. In turn, they need to be installed and uninstalled each storm.

ARMORPANEL™ Hurricane Fabric Panels

ArmorPanel hurricane fabric panels are an alternative to rigid storm panels. They are made of extremely tough, reinforced fabric that is light-weight and very flexible. Because they are lightweight fabric they are considered easier to install and store vs rigid storm panels.

This type of hurricane shutter is removable, not permanently attached. This means you need to install and uninstall them every storm.

Which Hurricane Shutter is Right For You?

Picking the right hurricane shutters for your home or business will depend on your specific needs, preferences, and budget. You should consider the type and size of your window, door and other openings, how often you intend to use the shutters, and how important convenience and appearance are to you.

If convenience is important, then roll-down and accordion shutters are easy to operate and can make preparing your home for a storm much easier. Bahama and Colonial shutters are a good choice for those who prefer appearance. These shutters can provide storm protection while also adding to the curb appeal of your home. Storm panels and hurricane fabric are other options to consider if you are looking for effective storm protection at a lower cost.

What About Hurricane Shutters vs Impact Windows?

Hurricane shutters and impact windows provide two totally different types of storm protection. Shutters are a great fit for homeowners who want to protect existing windows and doors without replacing their windows. They also cost less. Impact windows, on the other hand provide permanent, 24/7 protection without requiring shutters to be deployed.
