Florida’s Home Hardening Sales Tax Exemption was signed into law to help Florida homeowners and business owners protect their properties vs natural disasters like hurricanes. The tax exemption has been active since July 1, 2022, but it is ending soon on June 30th, 2024. Who is eligible for the tax exemption?
Both consumers (homeowners) and business owners in the state of Florida are eligible.
What items are exempt from Florida sales tax under the program?
According to the Florida Department of Revenue Home Hardening page, the following items are exempt from sales tax:
- Impact-resistant doors
- Impact-resistant windows
- Impact-resistant garage doors
To be eligible all home hardening products must have the appropriate impact-resistant rating (be hurricane-rated).
