How are the names chosen?
Atlantic Tropical Cyclone Names, including those that were used for 2023 are determined by the World Meteorological Organization. The 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season officially started on June 1st and will officially end on November 30th, 2023.
The 2023 Atlantic cyclone season was originally predicted to be less active than normal. However, the National Hurricane Center and others changed that prediction mid-way through it to be a more active season than normal. This high level of activity was driven largely by the warm sea water temperatures that persisted throughout the season.
